To all Players, Parents, Coaches, Officials, Program Directors and other Members of PAGLA’s Family,

On Thursday, the Pennsylvania Department of Education ordered that all schools in Pennsylvania remain closed until the end of the 2019-2020 academic year. Unfortunately, this means that PAGLA is canceling its 2020 season, including the PAGLA Playday event.

We understand that this is a disappointment to many of you. Sports are fun and we look forward to the competition, companionship, and overall great experiences. While COVID-19 has stopped this season, we remind everyone that our sacrifice will help many more people enjoy future lacrosse seasons. We ask you to keep thinking of those future seasons and that you prepare for them as best you can. We look forward to seeing what you can do!

Until then, we wish you and your families wellness in every way,

Season Resumption

PAGLA’s Board of Directors (“Board”) continues to monitor the outlook for a SAFE resumption to our 2020 season. Current guidance from the Pennsylvania Department of Education is that all schools in Pennsylvania are closed until further notice

As announced in our last update, PAGLA’s season will remain suspended until both (a) schools are reopened AND (b) the Board determines conditions are safe for our extended family. We respect there are many strong opinions on what the future may look like and when our community will return to normal. Insight to our future will come from medical experts but at present, no such clarity has been provided. As such, PAGLA will continue to suspend its season until further notice

PAGLA’s Board will reassess updates from the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention along with other sources. The Board will cancel the 2020 season IF (i) schools are not resumed by May 5 OR (ii) the Board assesses that conditions are unsafe despite schools being reopened.  We hope to be in a position to provide this feedback the week starting April 27.

How Can Girls Keep Active With Lacrosse?

Most importantly, respect Shelter-in-Place orders. Next, reach out to your coach for ideas of what you can practice at home. Finally, parents can use this time to learn a bit more about the lacrosse through their kids! US Lacrosse provides TONS of drills and resources through their Mobile Coach App (free to members!) and on the drill archive on their website

Pre-paid Fees and Expenses

Shelter-in-Place measures occurred quickly. Many of us expended amounts we wish we could recover, including for registration and US Lacrosse memberships.

PAGLA asks for patience on these matters. Some are fortunate enough that we do not need a refund. Others will be soon receiving assistance from government subsidies aimed at affecting those in financial need.

While these are unsettling times, we ask that families appreciate that refunds from not-for-profit organizations impacts families within these organizations. None of us wish this.

PAGLA reserves optimism that our not-for-profit partners will weather this crisis well. We look forward to revisiting these subjects on the Other Side. Until that time, we again ask for your patience on such matters noting USL has already extended membership benefits and will continue to do so.

From US Lacrosse:

US Lacrosse is focused on maintaining continuity of services and programs to your lacrosse organizations so that our sport can resume play at the earliest opportunity with minimal interruption.  This includes preparing to resume educational opportunities for coaches and officials, ensuring our best-in-class insurance coverage do not lapse for our members and affiliated organizations, as well as continuing to provide the myriad of resources, programs and leadership to help local lacrosse continue to thrive when this threat subsides.

US Lacrosse is deeply grateful for the investment PAGLA has made in our mission as a Member League.  Your league’s investment is vital to our ability to support lacrosse in your community and around the country.  This is especially true at this critical time, and our nonrefundable membership policy continues to be in effect.

In order to maintain continuity of our mission, as well as to support members like you and the organizations providing lacrosse opportunities for athletes, US Lacrosse is adhering to its policy that membership is provided on a year-long basis and is a nonrefundable transaction.
